Vanessa,
One way that I tried to prevent diaper rashes or my daughters skin getting 
dried out was anytime she went poop I would put lotion on her butt after she 
was all cleaned up. I am not sure if this really prevented diaper rashes, 
but she hasn't gotten that many. Usually they have been from her eating 
certain foods like oranges. I can always tell if the area seems bumpy or 
rough, and warm to the touch. Also a baby will let you know if it hurts when 
you are wiping them off.
