[blparent] Bed Rails

Hello Jo Elizabeth,
We do have a bed rail on Austin's bed. We will probably take it off one of
these days, but it was good piece of mind for me especially at the
beginning. Even now, Austin likes to sleep right at the edge of the bed, so
I'm happy leaving the rail there. I guess it all depends on how restless a
sleeper Sarah is, and how you think she'll do with no rail. I know some
people who have just put something soft right by the edge of the bed in case
of a fall. I thought a fall would be scary though, which is why I opted for
the rail.  I thought it would be a big enough transition to the big boy bed;
I didn't want to add a layer of fear of falling right off the bat. We do
have one side of the bed against the wall, so we only need one rail.
We don't put a gate at Austin's door; I wanted him to be able to
come and get me if he woke in the night and needed me. He's very good about
not getting up and wandering around the house; if Sarah is more of a
wanderer then a gate might be a great solution.
Hope this helps.
Melissa

Subject: [blparent] Bed Rails

Hi. I'm starting to think about moving Sarah from her crib to a regular
bed. The move might not happen for a few months yet, but one of these days
Sarah is going to try climbing out of her crib. It's just a matter of time.
So I'm wondering if any of you bought rails for a regular bed. If so, were
the rails worth the investment? I was thinking I would put a baby gate at
Sarah's door as well as one at the top of the stairs, but I'm not sure how
big of an issue falling out of bed might be. The rails seem to sell for
between $20 and $30, which isn't bad, but I don't want to spend money on
something that isn't really necessary. Thanks.
