[blparent] Car Seats?

It is advised that you have it inspected by the police or fire
department but it is not illegal and some won't even do it. My town
does, but only for town residents, not for anybody living outside the
town which annoys me and a number of friends greatly.
Your wife will need to learn how to strap in the seat and how to make
sure it is secure. Not difficult, but does take some practice.
I use an alpha omega seat. It's specced for newborns (five LBS) all the
way up through booster seat size/age/weight.
Go to a store, literally get your fingers into what's there and see what
she likes as she'll be the one doing this.
Your other option is to buy a second car and/or let people drive your
car when she wants/needs to take the baby places. If you buy a second
car, you can of course make sure that the fire department sees the seat
is properly installed assuming yours will do that for you.
Whatever you do though, she does need and will want to go out with the
baby sans you. Nothing like being the only rooster at the henhouse and
totally not healthy for her to not be able to take the baby anyplace by
herself or with friends.

Hmm, it may be safe, but is it legal? I thought you had to have a car
seat
inspected by the local fire department. We're going through the same
thing,
trying to figure out what to use. I'm sighted, so, obviously, we do have
one
car, which we'll have a base in. But my wife travels with different
people
all the time, so we're not sure what to do about that.
