[blparent] Attending convention with a sighted toddller

    i attended convention with my son who is sighted when he was almost two 
and when he was almost four.  He enjoyed himself at NFB Camp pretty well 
when he went the first time, but when he was almost four, his experience was 
a mixed bag.  There were a few times when he was rather reluctant to go to 
camp.  He was bored in the room for his age group, but he wasn't satisfied 
in the older age group either.  However, he enjoyed the field trip to the 
carousel and the petting zoo that came to visit the campers.  If I go to 
convention this summer, my husband and son will visit relatives instead of 
accompanying me.
    Perhaps my boy will enjoy making new friends at camp when he is a bit 
older, but so far our experiences have been that we needed to provide a lot 
of entertainment for him and take him on several little trips for him to 
enjoy himself.  I guess that's just a part of bringing children to these 
events.  I suppose it would help if I would make friends with people who 
also have young children instead of always hanging out with my single 
friends.
    Honestly, this transition has been a bit difficult for me.  Attending 
national conventions was a long-time tradition for me as a single person, 
but the experience is quite different now that I go with my husband and 
child who are sighted.  Maybe it's better for me to be there by myself, or 
perhaps I'm just being selfish.  Maybe I should not go for a while, but it 
is always such a shot in the arm for me.
    I'm not sure whether this makes sense to anyone else, but it's my take 
on the situation.  If you sat through all of my rambling and straying from 
the original question, bless you.
