I agree, you're right, he might be advanced enough at 18 months.  I hope so
for your sake.  I thought Gab was as well and in the long wrong she still
didn't get it until she was three.  I hear boys train easier and quicker
than girls.  She also sat on the potty and sometimes she actually peed or
pooped in it and she also knew where it was.  But unfortunately, for me, she
refused to use it all the time till she was older.  I didn't mean to put you
down in any way, please forgive me.  I just said I thought 18 months was a
bit young. Smile!  v

I disagree. A child can be ready enough to try at that age. It wasn't until
the last 30 years or so that it became common to train kids  later than
that. It was common when I was a kid to see a child training at 18 months.
Doing it at that age or later isn't right or wrong it's a matter of the
child's interest and willingness and the parents commitment and persistence.
Just because something doesn't work for one person doesn't mean it won't
work for anyone and likewise just because something works for one person
doesn't mean it will work for another. I could see a reason for concern if
we were making him sit there but, we don't and he likes sitting on the
toilet and even pees in it sometimes. I'm not going to go back to diapers
now just because some people think he is not ready. I do agree that many if
not most kids are not ready at this age but, Myles is a very independent
little guy who likes to move on to new challenges very quickly. I only asked
for advice for containing the messes. I rent and can't afford to replace the
many carpets in my house, the place is massive and the carpets are numerous.
Man I had a horrible time finding waterproof training pants available in
Canada. Many websites but, either the item was way too high priced or the
shipping was through the roof. then there is the finding of the brand you
want. Canada does not have many options for kinds. Ended up going with
Kushies and then i had a hard time figuring out how many pairs to buy. too
many decisions. lol

I agree, showing them the potty evry 30 minutes is not potty training, but
showing them the spot where the pee or poop should go.  But at 18 months, I
don't think they are ready.  They are still a baby, learning how things
work.  A baby at 18 months is just learning that you get up, you eat, you
play, you nap, you play, you eat, you play.  V
