No external buttons on the side for this feature, only on/off, volume and

You may need help initially if you need to go into settings. If you have
someone with the ability to read print, have them get  you to settings and
it will have a button saying "speech on". Also, feel around, you may find an
actual physical button on the side that you can hit to turn speech on and
off.
