[blparent] Making your own baby food?

Miranda,
I used jar baby food from the store with my first, and bought a bunch of it
for my second child and she wouldn't touch it. She spit it out and turned
her head and wanted nothing to do with it. So I went straight to a fresh
food feeder, and then to table foods with her. With my third I never bought
baby food. I did puree some with my blender, but not much. I mostly did
cereal, and some pureed avocado and pears, at first, at around 6 months, but
not all the time because my pediatrician didn't want me to start solids till
9 months. So at 9 months I started with the fresh food feeder again and
table foods. I fed them things like apple sauce, mashed potatoes, banana,
toast, yogurt (Yo Baby is great for infants)... As they got older I moved
on to noodles, small pieces of fruit or cooked veggie, cereal... Oh and the
Gerber puffs. I started some of those around 6 months and she started
feeding herself those at 7 months, so she did have those quite a bit before
9 months. But she was still nursing so that was where she got most of her
nutrition. If she had been formula fed I would have given more formula than
solid food until a year. I don't think there's anything wrong with buying
baby food, I just felt like I wasted a lot of it if he didn't finish the
whole jar, or if he didn't like the food, whereas if I made my own I could
try pureeing just a little bit and not waste a bunch of it. I also used
tips from the site that Dena suggested.
