[blparent] a new school

Her agenda says they are allowed to have them at school, however they must
be turned off during school hours. That so works for me as I only need her
to use it before school when she arrives there and when she leaves there. v

V,
Figure out what you want her to have. Do you want her to text? It's a great
way to stay in touch, and I'd argue that if her friends text and she
doesn't, she may be left out of things only because it's so easy to send a
text to however many people and to just forget about people who can't text.
I'd get unlimited texting only because the character limit is small and if
she gets into a conversation, she may use way more text cycles then you'd
think.

Also, is she alloed to have a cell phone at school? Some allow it, some
don't. If she isn't and you want her to have one, be ready to discuss with
the school.

I saw sevral different brands, some were $1 a day, some $2, some had
texting, some did not, some were a set amount per month. Aaaah! So many
options. I'll figure it out tomorrow. Gonna take my hubby with me and let
him pick.

You can buy phones at Walmart or Target and then just do what it says to
turn them on ... can't remember what my son's was for sure.

Any recommendations for a particular phone?

I did the prepaid cell phone thing. my daughter use to walk a block to
school and she would call me once leaving the school and talk to me all the
way to the front door. I enjoyed this a lot. it gave her the independence
she needed and the comfort I needed to know she was ok.

feel better and you can afford it ... buy her a cheap cell phone with a
preset amount of minutes on it, then you know if there are any problems ...
she can call you.
