[blparent] Independence

What you really need are some skills. RP is nasty because you naturally try
to use the techniques that worked for you when your vision was better. It's
all about independence, and the knowledge of how to function as a blind
person will give you power over your own life. It will enable you to deal
with your parents as an adult equal rather than a dependent.

I do not know what is available where you live, but NFB has many excellent
resources to help you find the training that you need, as well as how to
deal with the state. Don't put it off. Learn what's available and easy
first, and then move on to a residential program.

As a teen, newly blind, I got excellent O&M training and other basic skills.
I never did go through a residential program (other than living as a
batchelor, but I wish I had. It is a lot easier to learn from blind people
who have been living independently as opposed to having to figure out each
and every little trick for yourself by trial and error.

Good luck.
