[blparent] baby's first birthday

We did very little for Austin's first birthday... It was just my husband, a
close friend of ours who was living with us for a short time, Austin, and
me. I made a cake, and we video taped Austin opening his presents. Don't
worry, for Austin's second birthday we had a much bigger party with friends,
and his Nanna was able to come from Wisconsin which was really nice. We had
a similar party for his third birthday. For his fourth we actually shared a
party with one of his friends from daycare who was born a day before him.
Then we had a smaller gathering with close friends on his actual birthday.
We did have a party for Oriana's first birthday. She is a May baby,
so the weather was nice enough to have some fun water play with her birthday
present--a water table. We also blew up our wading pool. We invited the
kids from her daycare, who are mostly older than Oriana, but everyone seemed
to have a fun time. We also had many of our adult friends who are certainly
a part of Oriana's life and wanted to wish her well on her birthday. We've
never gone too crazy with themes. Certainly Austin has gotten to choose what
he wants on his cake; he's had a Diego, Cars, and Toy Story. We have gotten
goody bags and plates and napkins to match. Mostly though, so far our
parties have just been laid back fun times at home. This may change a
little as Austin gets older and might want to do different types of parties.
Your ideas sound very nice, and I'm sure everyone will enjoy the big event!
Melissa

My wife made a apple sauce cake with cream cheese frosting. She also ordered
personalized birthday hats and plates with "Happy Birthday Harrison!" on
them. We drove to Yosemite National Park and experienced the 5th largest
waterfall together.

He received trucks, books, bounce balls, Veratech learning toys, T-ball set,
Braille ABC blocks, clothes, a toy mobile phone, and a push toy as gifts.

We had a blast!

I decided to make it a tradition and visit US national parks every birthday.
We are considering Yellowstone next year.

Great pics and great memories!

Good luck on the party. Sounds like a lot of fun too.

Hello list,

Now that Dawson is 10 months old I'm excitedly beginning to plan for his
first birthday which will be here before I know it. I'm planning on making
the affair simple with friends and any family that is able to make it since
we're out of state from most of our family. The party will probably be at
home or at a nearby park with pizza, a few side dishes and a Costco cake
since they do such a great cake for only around $18 which includes a
customized message. Since Dawson's birthday is on Halloween I'm planning on
doing a pumpkin theme with the invitations saying, "Our Little Pumpkin Is
Turning 1". As favors for the guests I'm planning on taking cleaned out
baby food jars and wrapping them with messages from Dawson to his guests and
they will have candy inside. I got some excellent game ideas for the guests
on-line as well as some memory making ideas like having a shoe box that the
guests can put a message into for Dawson to open when he's older. I'm also
going to have a picture of Dawson with a big blank border around him that
guests can write something to him on in acid free pen that I'll frame and
put up in his room

I'd love to hear what you guise did for your kids first birthdays and what
worked and what didn't. I want to make this party low budget but with lots
of cute touches. I've also created a wish list on the Babys R Us website
which will make gift hunting easy on folks. I can't wait to hear about your
babies first birthdays.

Erin
