[blparent] [Bulk] present idea

The one I bought was a sturdy plastic with built on benches, it did collapse
when not using. 3 years ago, when our pup came to live with us, we set it
out back for the smaller kids in the neighborhood to sit and play with
Nutmeg and Nutmeg adopted it for her very own. She lays on it most of the
day and even though I was going to give it away, I don't have the heart. Ha

I actually disagree about a toddler table and chairs. Some of them are very
flimsy and are actually themed, so if your child grows out of liking a
particular character he won't like the table any longer either. These
usually come with really unsturdy plastic chairs. My husband and I held out
and finally found a really nice wooden toddler (actually probably a bit
bigger than a standard toddler table as our five year old still sits at it
comfortably) table and small, but very sturdy wooden chairs. We found this
at Toys Are Us, and it is a nice wood color, so it's gender neutral and goes
well with any room. Our son, and now our daughter too love it, and we often
sit down with them, or kneel by the table, to play games, color, or just
play with toys. Of course, my husband and I are both on the shorter side,
so sitting on a child sized chair, a step stool, or bean bag, or kneeling on
the floor are fairly comfortable for us. Because of the height and
construction of the table, we never viewed it as a separate space for our
kids to play at alone. They can, and do, play alone at the table, but they
also now play together, with friends, and we play with them. Just another
perspective to think about.

I'd wait on the toddler table and chairs. Unless you have other kids around
or your kid likes being by himself your child won't use these. Mine would
have hated them because she knew we didn't use them so even if we'd be in
the same room, she'd view a toddler table and chairs as being "away" from
us. This means that you have something that takes up space that nobody in
the house can use.
If you do want a table of some kind, get a train table as even if your child
won't use it, it will give you a place to get all their crap off the floor.
Get one with storage space too.

Parents do all kinds of things, but some ideas may be a push to ride on toy,
large ball, first trucks, infant instruments, first fork and spoons,
children's music, new clothes, Toddler table and chair, activity table,
books for you to read to him like from NBP and Seedlings. You will want the
memories so I'd encourage you to get a few things.

2 of my favorite sites for infant and toddler products are
www.lakeshorelearning.com and my Discovery Toys page at
www.playtoachieve.com

Hope that helps some.
