[blparent] Starting Solids Tips?

Just expect messes. We used to strip Elise down to her diaper. We timed the
meal around her bath times, because she usually needed one after that. Keep
in mind most of eating until 12 months of age is about exploration and
sensory stimulation, not so much about nutritional intake. He's going to
want to smere it all over his face, play with it with his hands, etc. I was
told not to discourage this, because it is all part of learning for the
baby. You can buy plastic bibs that can be easily washed and air dried. I
prefer those to the fabric bibs, as they are easier to clean and can
sometimes be used more than once, depending on how dirty they get. They have
a pocket in the front, so that's also nice for catching some of the mess. We
also used to put a plastic shower curtain or little tarp down under the high
chair. That way, if she threw stuff on the ground, I could just gather up
the tarp and wash it off. Not sure if your doctor told you this, but it's
best to stick to a single grain at first to make sure he adjusts to it
before bringing in anything else. I say this, because ome of the baby
cereals have several grains in them.
