My name was always "Jan," no shorter or longer.
I wished that I had a nickname.
Just as long as your nickname is not embarrassing, it is ok.
Someone gave one of my son's the nickname "L A." Those are the first
two letters of his name.
"LaTroi."
i promised that he would not be called "Troy," or anything else.
But, family caught on to the "L A" part and he is still known that way
to family and people that knew him before 5yo.
And, some of his friends, despite my objections call him "Troy."
Everyone wants to shorten a name - don't know why.
I have even known people's names that get shortened to a single
letter: "k," "T," or "z."
