Subject: [blparent] board books

Hi All,
i know that NBP and others make braille board books.
i think that NLS even has some on loan that I might get.
But:
Have you thought about making your own?
With the clear plastic adhesive sheets, you might be able to braille
your own board books.
Has anyone tried?
Please share.

Since we will be a multicultural / interfaith / blind family, I
thought about making my own braille/print board books for our child.
They would talk about all of the above.
So: I searched on the net.
I found:
"custom board books,"
www.customboardbooks.com
(but don't go there, they are closed, yet still have their web site up.
"Pint Size Productions,"
www.pintsizeproductions.com
has the best price for the longest book -- 16pages, including front
and back cover.
"My custom Story,"
www.mycustomstory.com
( I think it is a ' .com)
sounds quite interesting. But, when i emailed them twice asking them
if they would help with my layout, i got no response. Yet, if you go
to
www.mycustomstory.info
you can create your own book pretty easily -- unlike the other sites
which are a bit less accessible.
"Hullabaloo stories,"
www.hullabaloostories.com
actually did email me back, but when i asked about putting a few
"scratch & sniff stickers" in the books, and specific information
about their "fabric books," they did not respond.
Yet, they were the only company who actually emailed me back.
[i also found scratch&sniff stickers at a comparatively low price, if
we want to have fruits or food smells in our books). (But, many of the
stickers are geared more for teacher's praises, so the picture
doesn't necessarily match the smell -- I'E' a round circle that smells
like grape bubblegum).
I think that
www.blankslate.com
has blank board books, but then, you would have to add your own
pictures and print and that might be more of a hastle than you would
want.
one of the companies also has blank board books, but i can't think of
the exact one, at the moment.
The board books run anywhere from 19.95 to 39.95.
And, there is a company
"I see Me,"
www.iseeme.com
which just puts your child's name and possibly pic in a prewritten story.
They are $29.95.
Actually, all of the companies have prewritten stories like:
"My first birthday,"
"All about my family,"
"when I was born,"
and "all about my day,"
but you can also make your own story.
Most of the board books are 12pages in length, including front and back
cover.
Has anyone used any of these companies?
I'd love to hear anyone's experience with this subject and/or companies.
