I never did it either because I heard it was really easy to tear the tissue
right there and start a heck of an infection.

I read about taking the rectal temperature in the parenting course, but I
never resorted to it because when you have a sick, cranky baby anyway, and
then you think about doing something like taking the diaper off, holding the
poor baby down, and sticking a thermometer where you wouldn't want it to go
yourself--I just never attempted it.  That infrared thermometer sounds
awesome.
