I would do something with him that he's not going to be able to do for a
long time after the baby is born. I'm an adrenalin junky so sky diving,
parasailing, bungee jumping or riding in a hot air balloon would be on my
list but those are also big ticket items and I understand trying to save for
expenses to come. This is a big one beings that he's a first time daddy and
all so you could do something like a professional massage if he's never had
one or a pedicure. A pedicure is something I did for my husband one
Valentine's day because it's something men hardly ever do for themselves and
end up loving. This is once they get over the thought that it's just a
chick thing! GRIN A male friend of mine gets them regularly and jokes that
it's women's best kept secret. I made sure that a woman was the one to work
on my husband's feet and it just worked out that she was pretty to boot
which made it extra special. SMILING I joked that as long as she was only
rubbing his feet it would be okay! LOL

When we were living in Oregon years ago there was a new spa for men only
that opened up near us called Harems. This was a place men could go where
they can sit down in a comfortable chair and be pampered by beautiful women
as they drank a beer and watched the sport or show of their choice on the
tube. I was going to do this treat for my hubby but never got the chance
before we moved but these are becoming popular and I wouldn't be surprised
if you have one in your area so check into it if you're interested.

Some other less expensive ideas that would be from the heart include, a
framed picture of your latest ultrasound for his desk at work, or even a
picture of you standing next to him showing off your baby bump, (if you're
showing) for him to show off at work. If I remember correctly, you're still
very early but you might be showing decently by Father's day. You could
also get a bag of customized M&Ms for him that have a message from the baby
to your husband. Last year I found a cap and shirt that said "World's
Greatest Dad" on it that was a little corny but my husband wore proudly.
The last idea I can think of right now is to call a restaurant ahead of time
and have them sing Happy Father's day to your husband as they bring him a
dessert and I can guarantee he won't see that one coming.

Subject: [blparent] Unique Father's Day gift ideas

Hello,

Okay, I know there is still plenty of time, but I'm trying to think of some
special and unique gift ideas for Father's Day for my husband since he will
be a first-time dad. I welcome any ideas and in-put. I'm hoping to think
outside the box of the traditional and stereotypical gifts, and I want
something with a little bit of meaning behind it. I could use some help.

In terms of price, if purchasing, I don't want to spend more than $100, but
preferably under $50 with new house and baby coming up. He is into
technology and pursuing his computer science masters right now. He's in his
early thirties, enjoys food and beer, books, movies, music. He's from Iowa
and likes college football especially his Hawkeyes. Ummm... is funny,
caring, generous... This is starting to sound like a dating ad, LOL!

Like I said, I'm hoping for something with a bit deeper sentiment than a new
gadget or membership to a beer club, and be creative, but I'm just not quite
sure. If anyone has thoughts, suggestions, ideas, please pass them along.
Thanks.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter
