[blparent] ideas for a blind mommy friend of mine

Hi, I have traveled with 3 children so 2 should be doable. The sit and
stroll is perfect. She can use a large backpack for the booster, and the
kids and her things. I buckle in my own car seats, because I want to know it
is done right. I buckle in the youngest child usually first, and ask the
other child to wait right by me. As for walking I would use a harness for
the older child. If she thinks the cute little animal looks too childish she
can use one of the ones that goes on the child's waist and her waist and
then he can walk ahead or behind her. Once you begin to do it it is
tiresome, but really quite doable. Where is she planning to go? I used to
take 3 children 2 and under to the park, hospital for my blood draws,
grocery, and library. Look confident and go for it would be my biggest
advice. I now live where we can walk to anything, and that has a whole new
set of situations. I have twin 4 year olds, and a 16 month old. I where the
toddler and the older 2 walk, but the sidewalks aren't wide enough for us
all to hold hands so I have them hold the pockets of my jacket for now, and
let them walk without holding on on the less busy places. I couldn't where 2
fanny packs, and I think they are a bit big for the backpacks. So I'm
learning about something new too.

Subject: [blparent] ideas for a blind mommy friend of mine

Hi All,

There's a new group on Facebook called Blind Parents Alliance that I have
recently joined. I have a friend who has two children, 4 and 2 years old,
who is trying to become more confident about going out with her children
alone. She uses a sit and stroll for the youngest child, and I believe a
booster seat for the eldest child. She's planning an outing and needs some
ideas for transporting everyone. she's contemplating using Paratransit and
loading the kids into the vehicle on her own and getting assistance with the
car seats.

Any ideas? Any ways to do this better? Any ideas on how to travel with two
kids?

I haven't thought this far into the future but the idea of traveling on my
own with two kids is starting to make me nervous; and number two isn't even
in the works right now.

I did suggest tying a rope to the sit and stroll that the 4 year old needs
to hang on to or using a leash between mom and kid. Daycare centers do this
all the time when a group of kids go on an outing.

I welcome any and all suggestions. I look forward to reading them for my own
future use and to pass along to my friend.

Thanks,
LM
