An entrance mat inside and outside the door will stop the biggest part of
the dirt being walked in by people. Those can usually be washed with a water
hose, in the shower, or at the car wash with the high power sprayer.

recommendations?

This is a great thread, because I am in the market for a good steam
cleaner/other cleaning devices. I have a yorica vacume that does great but
my town house is all tile therfore I have the same issue brandy does which
is attracting dust and other junk from outside when people come in the door.
I can't stand to feel this stuff on the bottom of my feet therfore I am now
ready to purchase a whole army of devices in order to keep my floors clean.
My couches too are a magnet for some reason for dust and other stuff because
they are a swade type valvit material and it drives me nuts to feel them
that way as well. so please keep on the suggestions.

and Decker makes a wet/dry vac that is cordless that hangs on the wall. My
kids are all messy messy eaters so I use mine daily at least and sometimes
more. It's comes with a crevice tool and a squeegy tool, and the only
drawback is that it's small so requires me to get down on hands and knees to
use it on the floor. but it's got good suction and is wet/dry so it's worth
it. It's easy to clean, just has a washable filter and washable dirt and
water container as well. I think mine was about $40, so not too expensive.
If you want a broom vac and don't need it to be wet/dry, electrolux makes a
combination broom/hand vac that's cordless. Not sure what it's called, mine
just died not too long ago, but sears sells one for about $130. I had mine
for 3 years and loved it.
