I used carriers with all my children.  With my last, I started 
using a pram when he was about 15 months old.  I used a stretchy 
wrap carrier called the sleepy wrap for the first 3 4 months with 
my last, and for 15 months with my daughter.  It was so 
comfortable you hardly knew it was on.  It can carry on the 
front, but also on the hip too.  I spent many hours walking and 
doing things with baby attached and it felt great, and stopped 
just about all fussiness.
