[blparent] Intro from a new mommy

We saw those um I think they were peepee teepee's ... things that you put on 
their um little pistols before they can pee, personally, by the time I got 
that on, wipes out, whatever, he'd probably pee everywhere anyway!!  Loved 
the story about the boy peeing in his own eye, my middle son was famous for 
that one!!  Now mine's ready to potty-train, any suggestions??  He won't be 
2 until next month and isn't showing an interest in the potty at all ... 
it's been um over 10 years since I've potty-trained a toddler, help!!

Yes, and feel free to be liberal with the baby wipes so you know you've got
everything.  Depending on the type of poo I'd simply do a quick but bath if
it is that really fudgy stuff that smears easily or that grainy poo that
kind of almost roles right off the skin and gets every ware.  I love keeping
soft dry wash cloths near the changing area to dab baby dry and when he was
younger I would cover him with a clean paper towel while changing him so he
wouldn't shoot me with his loaded pistol! GRIN  I'm not remembering who
makes them right off the top of my head but there are some nice soft paper
hand towels out there that I used for a short time when my son was a little
guy and I really liked them because I could just keep the box right on his
changing table and pull out a sheet with one hand.  I remember them being
around $2.50 for the box.  If you want to get really fancy I saw on
television that they make something called a Pee Pee TP that you place over
a little boy's penus.  It didn't look like it did anything a towel couldn't
do but I thought it was an adorable name if anything.  Something else I do
that has always been very productive in making sure my son is dry is simply
blowing air on him.  I turn it into a game and call it "Wind tunnel time"
and my son cracks up every time I do it.  It's even stopped him from crying
on multiple occasions because he thinks it's so funny.  Thankfully my son's
only had one bout of diaper rash and that's because we switched laundry
detergents and he had an allergic reaction, but I wanted to let you all know
that the diaper rash cream that I can't brag enough about is a cream called
Avalon.  This is a cream you can find in more of a natural food store.  It's
an awesome cream that doesn't have all the perfumes, dies and chemicals so
many of the other over the counter creams have and it has wonderful natural
oils in addition to the zinc oxide which is a key ingredient needed for
clearing up that rash.  It cost me $10 and I didn't mind spending the extra
few bucks because it worked and was natural.  This made me feel so much
better because it not only is stuff that goes into their little bodies
through their skin but they love putting their hands in everything that goes
down there.

Wow, from one blind parent to another, great description of the diaper
changing process ... Not sure girls are easier than boys for wiping but they
usually only pee on themselves if they pee and not up the walls or in your
face or their face ... or in someone's soda can *great story*!!  The only
other thing I can suggest is to keep a roll of paper towels or a dry burp
rag or something, after wiping, especially when I was a new mom, I would dry
everything off and then feel for remaining poop, helps sometimes when the
area isn't wet.

Hi, Welcome! My name is Brandy, and I provide child care in my Michigan home
to 3 sweet little boys twin 4 year olds, and a 16 month old. My niece was
that exact weight and was born early for the same reason. We often joke that
she has never been uneventful. She's had random health problems her whole
life, she's only 7 and many they say from her being early.

As for the poopy diaper thing I tend to use more wipes than I probably need,
but When I open the diaper I hold the babies feet up in the air with the
fingers of my left hand around the babies ankles, and with my right hand I
use the part of the diaper that was over the front to kind do one swipe down
and back to try to get any large chuncks. I then pull the diaper off the pad
and leave it to put dirty wipes in. I continue to hold the babies feet up
and use a wipe to clean the babies middle of their bottom and parts, and
then a clean wipe for each but cheek. I then get one last wipe all around,
at this point I just use my hand that is clean because I've been using wipes
and touch. Poop often doesn't spread as much as one may think. I find the
wetter the wipes the better, and when it is really bad I use wet wash cloths
instead of disposable wipes. I find the cleaner wetter wipes like babyganics
or huggies are better than the loves or pampers because they don't add extra
slimy feeling to the process.

Good luck it can be a messy job.

Thanks for introducing yourself.
No, I'm not blaming myself for the preeclampsia at all. I know there aren't
any specific factors that cause it as far as the pros can tell.
I'm just glad they caught it in time; I had no idea about it until I went
for one of my routine prenatal visits and discovered that my blood pressure
was through the roof.
I know I may be stepping on a landmine here, but my personal opinion is that
people really shouldn't blame themselves for various things that occur
during a pregnancy, such as it resulting in a CSection, or any conditions
that may crop up while carrying a little one. It's sad when someone gets
upset over not having been able to give birth naturally, etc. etc. It seems
so trivial; Such a small price to pay when the end result is a healthy baby.
I myself planned on natural birth, was totally against being induced into
labor, and was entirely set on exclusively breastfeeding. Well, wouldn't you
know it--I ended up having to be induced, the induction failed so I had a
CSection, and my baby had to be suplemented with the evil formula because he
couldn't get the hang of breastfeeding and was losing weight rapidly. Go
figure. All that considered though, I have no qualms over how it all went.
Sure, things didn't go as planned, but do they ever? All in all, as I've
mentioned before, my baby is healthy and that's all that matters. People
come into this wold in various ways, under differing circumstances. Yet
we're all here, all the same
