Jennifer, thanks for the great ideas! If I left dinner up to her, my hubby
and I would be eating anyting with Rosemary on it. ha ha, she does like to
experiment! Oh well, that's how great chefs make their living.

First I have a short tip on cleaning up broken eggs. Pour some salt on the
mess and then you can just wipe it up. It works really well. My oldest was
obsessed with breaking eggs on the floor when he was about two and I cleaned
up a lot of egg goo. Salt is a great thing to have around for general
cleaning anyway. I usually cook with a sea salt, but keep the cheap stuff
around for cleaning and baking.

I am a huge fan of kids learning to cook. The best plan is just to include
them in your daily work in the kitchen. Allow extra time for meal prep
because kids will move slower until they gain experience. All three of my
kids are some what experienced as cooks.

My recommendation is to find a cook book that you are both interested in and
just start making some of the recipes. If she already has some basic cooking
skills then maybe you can put her in charge of dinner one or two nights a
week. You will probably want to be around to answer questions, but she will
probably love this opportunity to be independent. This is a great point to
start teaching her about shopping lists and meal planning too. All part of
living independently.

I'll try that. Thanks.

Yes I figured. I just thought you may be able to let her try with you again
on a flat surface as then it cracks differently and you may be able to save
the egg and you the mess. When I was around her age I knocked a whole carton
on the floor. I still remember that big mess of yellow!

I think I gave the wrong impression here. I know how to crack eggs. I've
done it successfully for years and years. It was when my daughter smashed
the egg on the edge of the counter that I got splattered. I meant it as a
funny story, not as a question about how to crack eggs.
