Interesting, yes. Makes sense, yes. But it's a little annoying. My
strategy is to say no when it counts, and yes when I can. I wouldn't want
to not pick up a crying baby because he or she needs to learn to wait. I
wouldn't want my child to be hungry, but wait for a meal or a four o'clock
snack. I've taught her to say hello, goodbye, thank you and please. But I
want her to know she can come to me whenever she needs to or wants to. I
lived in fear and uncertainty for my whole childhood, and my daughter won't
grow up that way. If French parents would consider her spoiled, well, guess
what? This is America.
