[blparent] placement of bells for crawling baby

Hello Ronit,

I have two types of bells. One is a set of bells on Velcro that I wrap
around my son's ankle when we're at play groups or around his wrist, but I
prefer the ankle because he doesn't mess with it there. My mother-in-law
bought these for him at a music store. The other bell I have has a clip
attached to it and I attach that to my son's toddler harness or to one of
the belt loops on his pants. You could also use one of those pacifier clips
if it's a strong one and figure out a way to attach a bell to that with
string. You could also take a shoe lace, put some bells on it that are safe
and not a swallowing hazard and put that contraption around your baby's
waist with a knot tied so that the bells stay put and doesn't come off your
baby easily. These are just some ideas, but it all just depends on what you
have around the house and what you're able to go out and buy. The bell with
a clip that I have came with a white elephant gift years ago and I just
through it in a junk drawer because I thought I might need it some day and
now I'm so glad I did. They do make some bells for dog's collars with clips
that I know you could order on-line and easily attach to your baby. You
might also call your local pet store and see if they have something in
stock.

Best to you and your munchkin.

Erin

Subject: [blparent] placement of bells for crawling baby

Hi everyone,
I take my 10-month-old son to a Gymboree class once a week where he has the
freedom to crawl around a very large room. Up until last week, he hasn't
been crawling very far from me but this last week, he started crawling too
far for me to hear where he went. Luckily I had my father-in-law with me
that day but now I know it's time to attach bells. I know we've discussed
this on list before, like using zip ties to attach bells to shoes, but where
do you attach bells to the clothing of a crawling baby? I was thinking I
would attach it to his back somewhere but others have said that he might
roll over on to the bell and hurt himself. I don't want it to be within his
reach to play with it. Also, I was thinking of using a safety pin to attach
the bell but clearly this is not the most safe thing ever. What else have
you used to attach bells to clothing when the child is not wearing shoes?
Just as a clarification, this is only for when we go to playdates or places
oher than home, because at home I have no problem with him crawling
everywhere.

Thanks so much.
Ronit
