[blparent] Sit'n'stroll, one more time

I believe this is a perfectly sturdy car seat, and also easy to install. So
I wouldn't worry about those things. I would however, definitely not
recommend taking a baby who is not able to hold up his or her head in this
car seat. It is supposedly designed for infants five to 40 pounds, but I
never used it with my kids until they were around 6 months old and could
hold up their heads. Also, as a permanent stroller, I believe the Sit 'n'
Stroll has several drawbacks--unless the sidewalks where you live are very
smooth, or you're only planning to use it indoors, or mostly indoors. It is
pretty easy to pull behind you, but I don't think it handles bumps too well,
and it's a bit more tipsy than a more traditional stroller, which makes it
harder to handle on any rougher ground. Again, it is fantastic for use in
stores, malls, parking lots, and an occasional longer trip. But, I wouldn't
use it until the baby has tood head control. Do you have anyone you know
and trust that you could barrow a car seat from for the time being so you
don't have to purchase a new one? Could you take the car seat you planned
to use back to the store and trade it for a different car seat that will
better meet your needs for the time being? That way you could save up to
buy a different car seat for when the baby outgrows the Sit 'n' stroll. Or,
I know Graco makes, or used to make, some type of frame that you could put a
Snug Ride Car Seat into and use a little like a Sit 'n' Stroll. This would
mean having to lug two pieces with you, but I understand the frame is maller
than a usual stroller, and might have advantages over the Sit 'n' Stroll as
far as using it as more of a traditional stroller is concerned. I know the
Snug Ride 35 car seat is designed for babies up to 35 pounds, and I am
reasonably sure it is designed as more of a carrier type car seat. I hope
this helps.

Subject: [blparent] Sit'n'stroll, one more time

Ok guys, I'm so sorry, because I know I've emailed on this topic a couple of
times. I am really concerned about safety and am looking for anyone who has
been in a similar situation or could answer my questions.

Background: I am blind, but my husband is sighted. Originally, we had
planned to use the Sit'n'stroll as our permanent stroller, but only use it
as a car seat for when I was with others or using public transportation. A
friend gave us a car seat that we planned to use permanently in the car.

Well, we bought the Sit'n'Stroll. Turns out, the gift car seat is for
babies 20-80 lbs. Now all we have to take the baby home from the hospital
and use up to 20 lbs is the Sit'n'stroll.

My first question is, has anyone ever used it to take their baby home from
the hospital? I have been told that hospitals won't allow a baby to go home
in that car seat, because it isn't a carrier one. Others have said the
carrier seat isn't required, but there is no neck support so it wouldn't be
good for a baby who can't hold his head up and therefore the hospital won't
let you take him home in it. My thought is, if it were made for a baby 5-40
lbs, wouldn't it be able to serve this purpose?

My other concerns are from reviews I just read on Amazon from many, many
parents. The positive reviews all talk about travel, but that it isn't good
for permanent use. One reason they sight is how difficult it is to install.
Others say it isn't sturdy and wouldn't hold up in a car accident.

So, like I said, I'm really concerned, and spending more money on another
car seat is not easy for us, but if I have to I will. Can anyone shed some
light on my concerns/questions?

Thanks so much,
Heather
