[blparent] Trampolines, yes or no?

Jumping out a window with a bolt of fabric. Wow!  In that case, trampolines
are way more safe.  Jumping is jumping and I don't like pogo sticks, you can
also bounce off those and break something.  
Like I said, anything that is misused is dangerous.  
If you have a trampoline, you must have rules, but that should go without
saying.
Why are they dangerous?  You jump and bounce and  learn balance.  Yes I said
I broke my nose, but that wasn't my doing but our camp counselor who thought
each of us kids should flip over.  My knee came up on the flip and hit my
nose.  I, didn't do it on my own.
Gab has been jumping on a trampoline since she was about 2 and the only
thing that has ever happened to her on it was her little friend was holding
a can of silly string, sprayed it at her as she was laughing and she threw
up on it.  But it wasn't from jumping. But from eating silly string.

My kids love to jump on trampolines, but I have not gotten one for several
reasons only one of which is the safety factor. Of course my view of the
safety factor is eternally skewed by life with my children.  Last summer my
two younger sons, then five and 7, used a bolt of fabric to repel out the
second floor window. Apparently out of concern for their own safety, they
did throw down all of the clean bedding for a family of five to cushion a
possible fall. If you really want a trampoline, they do make cages and pads
for the springs and edges.

Another option besides the pogo stick and moon shoes Jo Elizabeth mentioned
is a mini trampaleen. You can keep the inside too. These are not inexpensive
answers though. I looked at pogo sticks for Christmas and I think they were
around $75, and the min trampaleens are over a hundred if you buy new.

I have also found that my little ones love a papason chair to curl up in.

my motto is all kids get hurt yeh they are dangerous but if i could I would
have one.  I mean your child could fall and bust their head just as quick as

falling off that.  anything can be unsafe if used in a way that is unsafe.

I need all your opinions on outdoor trampolines.  My husband feels they are
not safe, and should not be used if I am alone here with the kids.  So, we
don't have one.  We are outside of town, no public transit here, so if
someone got hurt, I'd have to call my folks or the ambulance.



Do any of you have a trampoline?  What are your concerns, and what are your
rules about it?

I ask because I have one child who is impulsive and very much a kinesthetic
learner.  He needs lots of body movement to have a good day without getting
into too much trouble.  A large outdoor trampoline would help him, but I'm
worried about accidents and ER trips.   I agree with my husband that it's
peace of mind not to have one, so is there something else we could use
that's just as stimulating?
