[blparent] Explaining vision loss to children

Austin actually told Mark a while ago that he wished he would be blind when
he grew up.  When Mark asked why, Austin said "So I can be a daddy."  We
thought this was so sweet, but explained that he could be a daddy even if he
wasn't blind--that a lot of daddys can see.  I also remember Austin when he
was around three or four suddenly stating so and so is blind, or so and so
can see.  I truly don't think he was making any kind of judgments about the
people themselves, he was just noticing this difference and categorizing it
in his own mind.

I've heard about children of blind mothers who assume for a while that most
mommies are blind.
