[blparent] Natural Recipe for Going Green

Boric acid shorts out the nervous system of cockroaches and ants. It's very
specific to a few species of insects. You wouldn't want to eat a few pounds
of it, but then you wouldn't want to eat a few pounds of Ivory Soap either.

As far as I know, ammonia is OK. It's an irritant, so be cautious if you
have breathing problems, but once it dissipates (and it does so quickly), no
health issues. *never* mix bleach with ammonia. It can react and release
enough noxious fumes to be deadly. I'm not sure of the chemistry, but I've
first hand knowledge of what happens when you mix Clorox and ammonia water.
