[blparent] Advice: buying a house

I normally refrain from adding my two cents into boiling cauldron
discussions like this one, but I just wished to point out that if there is a
house and there are or will be children, it is certainly relevant. Perhaps
you may feel that the discussion is a bit of a tangent, but I expect it all
ties in. Advice to minimize stress that can affect a family is, in my mind,
worth reading. No, this topic is not speaking of bottles, bibs and binkies,
but about how to provide a child with a home they will undoubtedly spend
many years in. The legistics all tie into giving a child as stable a life as
possible, and many factors tie into that.

I think that one of the most wonderful aspects of this list is the vast
array of opinions here. It is normal when people gather together in a group
for there to be differing views, values and ideas. This is true when it
comes to parenting, and, I daresay, it is true when it comes to what we feel
relates to our parenting. I for one will be moving into a new home shortly
after my child is born. Whenever I survey a house, I am thinking first and
foremost about whether or not I feel it is a place my children will be able
to happily call home. And many factors tie into this, so I am thankful for
any advice I can glean on the subject, especially when that advice is coming
from other blind and visually impaired parents.

I respect that you do not feel this topic applies to parenting. And I hold
no ill will against your strong protestations to that effect. I do, however,
feel it only fair that you extend those of us that find this topic relevant
the same courtesy. Please do not antagonize or speak disrespectfully to us
simply for opinions that do not match your own. We are all different in the
way we think. That is neither a good or bad thing. It is merely a fact and I
believe our differences are what keep this place interesting.

Respectfully,
Sirena
