I have used a large safety pen with a pretty good size bell on my children. I put it out about tag level on the back so that they cannot reach it or remove it if need be. I also have use a toddler leash. And doors squeaky shoes. There are many things you can do is just being proactive and getting it done so that this doesn't happen again.
