Bridgit, I'm glad to hear your little angel is doing well. I remember my
baby cooing a lot more between four and five months, so hopefully Declan
will be more voiceful soon.

Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may
kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Thanks for the advice. I know most babies will not enjoy nail trimming
regardless of how you do it, which really doesn't bother me since we've
had to do so much with Declan he hasn't enjoyed, but I don't want to
hurt him. Chewing them does seem like the safest option without
purchasing a device such as the one recommended here, but I thought I'd
ask and see what others do. Thanks.

As for an update on Declan since it's been a while, he's growing as he
should, weighing in at 12 pounds and 4 ounces at last doc appt, which
was two weeks ago, so he probably weighs even more now, grin. He's still
using the G-button, but he's eating more from the bottle. This past
weekend, he drank 75 ml's at his 8 pm feeding, which is the most he's
done to date. We have been super blessed and had two milk donors, both
family members. We have been introducing the breast milk one step at a
time to make sure he tolerates it, but two weeks ago we started doing
only breast milk in the bottle and a half and half formula and breast
mix when doing the button. I can't say for sure if this is the cause,
but since this switch, he's been drinking more in the bottle, been less
fussy, the reflux doesn't seem to be much of a problem, he's not had
spit-ups and he's not been arching his back and shaking his head, which
were two symptoms of the reflux. Knock on wood, but it seems to be doing
him a world of good. We also switched reflux meds, so I think the combo
is really helping. He will turn three-months-old tomorrow, smile! He's
still not cooing much, but he does make these little happy sounds from
time to time, and he's moving his mouth a lot like he wants to talk.
When I sing When You Wish Upon a Star, he gets real excited and usually
makes his happy sounds, grin. Today I'm pretty sure he chuckled a
little. He'll be four months at Christmas, so hopefully he'll be talking
a little more by then. He's very physical though and is already trying
to roll on his side. He will wiggle his body around when wanting to
touch or grab something like his soother or my hand or when playing on
his Baby Einstein floor mat. He's constantly pumping and kicking his
legs too. He's also trying to pull his bottle and binky into his mouth,
though we're still working on this motor skill, ha-ha! Sorry to go on
and on about this.

And Penny starts school today, and it's also her third birthday! She's
been so excited about school since August and just wouldn't stop talking
about it, grin! She's having a princess b-day party this Saturday. She's
very, very into princesses. She's the epitome of a little girl, LOL!
She's been a little jealous about Declan, and anytime someone holds him,
she insists on that person holding her too. When I was singing to Declan
in his room, she came in, laid on the floor, said it was her room and
told me to stop singing, LOL! But she's also wanting to help with him
too, so I don't think it's a huge problem.

Thanks for all the advice on nail trimming, and sorry for the long email
about my kids, grin.

Sincerely,
Bridgit Kuenning-Pollpeter
