Hello Shelby,
Welcome to the list. My name is Melissa, and my husband, Mark, and I have
three children. Austin is five, and has just started kindergarten this fall.
Oriana is 2, and Elizabeth is almost 4 months old.
I always write down height and weight for doctor visits--especially
when my kids are infants. I guess, to be honest, I don't usually write down
Austin's height and weight anymore--I just keep that information in the back
of my head so I have it handy for things like whether he's tall enough to
ride a roller coaster and how long it might be before he can graduate from
his current car seat to a booster seat... At the rate he's gaining--or not
gaining--weight, he'll probably be in middle school before that happens!
Smile. Just so none of you worry, Austin is a really healthy boy. He just
likes and eats healthy foods for the most part, and he has tons of energy,
so he just works off anything he eats. This is great in so many ways, but
hauling around his big car seat can really be a pain sometimes! (Sorry,
completely went off topic there!)
As far as shots, I usually don't write those down. My doctor gives
me, at my request, a print out with the shot record. I can request another
one at any time for no charge. Elizabeth goes to day care one day a week,
and Oriana goes two days a week, so the day care needs this information as
well. So, I just get the print out and bring it to the day care. The doctor
keeps track of everything in your child's chart, so if you miss something at
the visit you can always give the office a call and get whatever information
you need. If your doctor's office gives you a hard time about this, then,
seriously, I might look for a different doctor. I certainly have written
down some other things from the visit, but I don't feel the need to keep
really detailed records since the doctor has them. Now, my kids have all,
thank goodness, been pretty healthy. I would probably feel very differently
if there were large medical issues, a lot of test, medications, specialists,
etc. to keep track of, or if there were worries about not meeting milestones
or something like that. There is no right or wrong way to handle doctor
visits. You should do what feels comfortable to you. Welcome to the list.
Melissa

Shelby
Welcome to the list.
I'm bernadetta and I am a mom to a seven-month-old son named Gabriel.
When I go to the doctor with him, I have a notetaker with me which I used to
write or record the visit. If writing, I take notes on what vaccines he's
had, how much he ways, and any recommendations or other important things the
doctor and I discuss. Both myself and Gabriel's dad go to the pediatrician
with him, so my boyfriend holds him while I write things down. There are
times when I go alone--that's when I just hit record and capture the entire
visit. I asked my pediatrician for permission--you have to do so by law, and
he was perfectly ok with it, given my circumstances.
He also gives me a little print card with everything written down--weight,
hight, etc, in case I needed it for one reason or another.
If you can buy books at all, check out the board books from seedlings.
We have one--it's one with mother goose rhymes but I can't recall it's title
off the top of my head. I had children's braille books from back when I was
little, so I read those to him too, but I can't remember any that truly
stand out to me.
if you have bookshare at all, and have access to a braille display, perhaps
you can download some from there---they have tons of them.
A few years ago, seedlings used to offer something called dots for tots,
which was a free collection of books that were print/braille and came with
little interactive toys.

Once again, welcome to the list.

Bernadetta
