[blparent] Valentine's day

What a sweet boy Austin is!

Sarah came home amped up to the max on sugar. There were a few healthy
snacks such as veggies and crackers with cheese, but there was enough sugar
that I had a dog of a time putting Sarah to bed last night, which made her a
grouch this morning. Still, I had fun with the holiday. It's amazing the
things you can enjoy with your little ones that never really meant much
before.

Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may
kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Austin enjoyed exchanging Valentines with his class. They actually had a
"Heart Healthy" party, so requested no sugary snacks or juice for at the
party itself. He did get a small amount of candy to take home. I thought
this was kind of the best of both worlds approach, and did appreciate that
he didn't come home all hyper from too much sugar.
The neatest part of Valentines day for me was that Austin wrote a
card for his youngest sister, Elizabeth. She is only 8 months old, so
obviously she didn't appreciate it, but I tucked it away in her memory box
and hope she'll appreciate it later. Austin's class has been working on
writing letters, so he had to write a card to someone, and he chose
Elizabeth. He wrote, "Dear Elizabeth, I love you. I hope you have a good
Valentines Day. Love, Austin." I just thought it was very cool that he
thought of Elizabeth and chose to write her a card.

It was my daughter's first V-Day in school. Lots of cards and candy.

So did you all do anything fun with your kiddos today? Gab says midschool's
no fun. When they were in elementary, they always crated cool bags and
everyone exchanged cars! Now, they do nothing. She did, however, bought a
small box of chocolates and shared with her buddies!
