Measuring formula is easy. Back when I was doing this, it was one part formula to two parts water. The size of the part didn't matter, the ratio did. That's what you want to keep in mind.
Also, you want it to be uniformly mixed. I used a blender to do this. You can also shake the bottle, I just trusted the blender's ability to mix more then I trusted my arms. Plus the blender was faster. I'd make big batches.
You can also use liquid formula. It's signiffigantly more expensive but is an option.
You'll know if your baby is hungry. You should always be able to soothe a baby and if you can't, you've got a problem. It's one of the reasons I don't like the dolls used in high school family life classes. They get into a cry sequence and there is absolutely nothing you can do. A real baby doesn't work that way.
Melissa gave you a good tip for measuring medicine.

Hello Gloria,
Welcome to the list. My name is Melissa. I have three children. Austin is 6,
Oriana is 2--she'll be 3 in May--and Elizabeth is 8 months. You asked a lot
of great questions here. I will answer the one about feeling movement, and
the one about measuring medicine. I have ideas about bottle feeding and
measuring, but I nursed my kids almost exclusively, so don't have much
experience measuring formula and water. There are moms and dads on this list
who have great tips for this though, so I'm going to leave that particular
question to them!

As far as movement goes... Yes, it is like a fluttering at first--almost
like butterflies in your stomach, or perhaps even a gasy feeling. The first
couple of times, it will come and go so fast you'll probably wonder if that
was the baby moving or something else. As the baby gets bigger, you'll
definitely be able to tell whether or not its movement. It's very normal to
tell your doctor you're not sure if you have felt movement or not at this
stage.

As far as measuring medicine... I got syringes without needles from my
pediatrician. I then have her put a notch on the plunger of the syringe at
the correct dose. Then I pull the plunger all the way to the top, and then
push it down until I feel the notche. I then know I have the correct dose. I
know Blind Mice Mart used to sell syringes that were marked tactally. I
always wanted to buy those, but have never gotten around to it, and I don't
know if they are still available. The biggest thing to remember is to make
sure someone marks the syringe on the plunger itself. A lot of people want
to try to mark it on the outside of the syringe, which does no good.
Good luck with your pregnancy, and feel free to keep asking questions! And,
feel free to email me off list if you need any clarification on my answers.

Thank you! I am so excited for you and your husband. If you don't mind my
asking, how has your pregnancy been? I will be 18 weeks today and my doctor
is asking if I feel the baby moving, but I am not quite sure what to expect
since this is my first. I hear peple say the movement feels like flutters,
but I am not sure. Are there any tips you can give me as far as peperation?
I have started to buy some things, but I was wondering if there is anything
you have done in regards to making things accessible? My husband is sited,
but I don't want to have to depend on him for things always. I have been
thinking about how to give medicine if necessary, how to measure bottles, I
know with formula the scooping is no problem but how do you measure the
water in the bottle since the onzes are printed on the outside of the
bottle? I am sorry if these seem like silly questions. I know I will find a
way but just wanted to talk to others and get some ideas. Thanks!
