[blparent] Help with Beco Carrier

Hello Angela,

Please remind me how old your daughter is?  As she gets older you can turn
putting her in the carrier into a game and have to go for a piggy back ride
while you strap her in.  Until then, I would either solicit the help of a
few other hands if anyone else is around because that's always the most
helpful thing or you can get on the ground if it's clean and slowly wiggle
her up on to your back while you're nearly in a crawl position and she's
close to the ground.  You could also put her up on your shoulders and slowly
lower her off your shoulders onto your back.  It all depends on what your
physical strengths are and what you're most comfortable with.  I used to
know a mom back in Tucson who would literally  flip her baby over her head
and quickly pop her daughter into the carrier that way.  I tried this and
thought I was going to dislocate something so that style was not for me.
When my son was younger I could often times get my son on my back by bending
over enough and slowly bouncing him up my back while grabbing him with one
hand and the straps with another.  I also tried to make it into a game by
telling him to hang on to the roller coaster which he thought was fun.  It
isn't easy though so even now at nearly 40 pounds I usually choose to wear
my son in my Ergo on my front which is still comfortable believe it or not.
I do prefer him on my back when I'm hiking or at a place where I want to let
him look around a lot like Sea World.  At 2.5 it's easy now because he can
just jump onto my back and hold on to my shoulders so it does get easier I
promise, the physical weight aside! LOL  I don't know how comfortable you
are with asking for help, but you'd be amazed how many folks are more than
happy to help you get your munchkin on your back.  I jump into gear when I
notice another parent in need because it really does take a village to raise
a child.

I'm having a problem with the Beco carrier, and I'm hoping some of you might
have a suggestion for me.

 

First of all, I truly love this carrier. It's very comfortable for her and
for me.

 

The problem is I am having trouble getting her in it by myself. I have no
problem putting her in it at home where I can prop her up on the couch and
then get the straps on me, but I'm having trouble getting her on my back
when we're outside of the house and I don't have a support for her back
while I'm getting it on. I've been having other people put her in after I
get the carrier on, but I'd like to be able to do this myself.

 

Any suggestions?
