My son age 4. Loves any excuse to celebrate. We don't celebrate halloween
at all. However we do have an alternative for the younger kids. Most of our
church children are 5 and under. We have a harvest party with prizes,
games, pot luck, and candy scramble. At home we carve a pumpkin for pies
and roasted seeds with brown sugar and cinnamon. We also dressup for the
party. This year he was the bear in the big blue house. I give out treats
but this year we only got 2 kids. Cunstruction tore up our front lawn to
fix drain pipes so kids would have needed to go round back where it wasn't
well lit. Most years we go to a friends place to hang on that night. This
year we happened to be home. Myles gets asked all the time what he is doing
for halloween and his response is always. "We don't do that, we celebrate
harvest" For christmas we don't do santa either. We tell him the story
about saint nicholas and the gold in the chimney. We explain its a nice
story about some who had a giving heart. We tell him his presents come from
Jesus cause he supplies the money to get them. We also make Jesus a bday
cake every year together. Christmas by far is his fav holiday. I have heard
so many times that if you don't do halloween or santa its no fun but really
my son has a blast every year .
