[blparent] Intro.

I think for us, the challenges have been watching our girls make mistakes,
or get hurt. The first instinct is to bail them out, but that is enabling
them. Our eldest commented that we taught them to be independent thinkers.
The only downside to that, of course, is when they don't do what you would
want them to hahahaha!
But whenever they have come to us after any traumatic incident, the first
thing we have said is, know you will make it through this.
We're not the authority figures anymore, but like the coaches on the
sidelines. We can give advice, knowing full well they may or may not take
it. After all, upon reflection, my husband and I were very much the same
way, part of being young, independent and having your own mind.

So then, what specific challenges happen, from a parental perspective, when
the children are grown? I'm curious because I could write a book on the
challenges from the viewpoint of a grown child--probably not a book worth
reading, but that's another point altogether.

Truth is tough. It will not break, like a bubble, at a touch; nay, you may
kick it about all day like a football, and it will be round and full at
evening.--Oliver Wendell Holmes, Sr.

Why? The relationship changes but you don't stop being a parent just because
a date on a calendar hits or a milestone happens
