Yes, the older my daughter gets, the more I'm realizing that she needs a mom
around, and while daycare may be ok, ok isn't mom. It's very difficult to
explain to someone who hasn't experienced it.

I am in Guthrie, Ok. The down side to the transportation is that the job
market here is so small. Still, there is a daily commuter bus to Stillwater
for people who work there, and daily shuttles to a couple of small colleges
near by and to the State University in Stillwater. As a stay at home mom
this works just fine, on the other hand transportation is so slow in
Oklahoma City and the metro area that it would be hard to raise children and
work full time. Allowing two to three hours to get two and from work also
makes it hard to find reliable daycare, which of course ads to the
transportation problem. Not to mention, who is really raising your children
at that point, and with child care costs can you even make a living there.
*sigh*

Tell me where you live so I can move there.

I moved to a very small city this past summer and was very pleasantly
surprised to find that I have the best and most affordable public transit
system I have ever come across here. I made certain there was basic
transportation and that the necessities were actually walkable, but honestly
thought I would be looking at hiring a driver or giving my teenager a little
cash to run errands for me. I am really loving the independence. I can also
schedule the day ahead and get to the much larger cities that are nearby for
a reasonable price. $3 for one way anywhere in town for what is essentially
a county run cab service is a great price. There is even a private cab
company in case you need to go somewhere between midnight and 6 a.m. when
the county one is closed.

My kids were really surprised when we were out doing back to school errands
to get them enrolled and at the end I spontaneously took us to McDonald's
for dinner. $3 extra for one more ride home is just not the deal breaker $10
or 20 would be.

Yes, we have the city bus, the door-to-door service, but they are not the
greatest as they have gotten me to appointments late more than once.
The cab, there is a 15 dollar boarding fee and I can't remember how much it
would've been per-mile. In short, nothing I could've make fit in my budget.
I'm trying to stay away from child support as that will open up a whole new
can of worms lol, and I hate worms..

Do you have paratransit? How expensive are cabs, just for rainy days?

No worries. I didn't think you were trying to betlittle me.
I should've chosen my words carefully, what I tried to say was that I am not
the only blind person experiencing what I went through and am currently
going through.
As I write this, I am in the process in making calls to see about what "good
survices" there are here for the blind. Public transportation sucks and with
my busy schedule, I need to figure out how to make things happen.
My main issue is transportation and the ability to get from one place to
another in a timely manner. Yes, we can debate about taking the buss, but
time isn't in my favor lol.
For example, I get off of work at 2:30, dr appointment is at 3:20, it takes
me about 30-minutes to walk from my job to their school, then another
20-minutes to 30-minutes to get to the doctor's office. Plus, mother nature
is not in a good mood today, but I will make it happen! I was single before
and made it lol.
