Read to her a lot. See if you can find some phonics books in Braille that you can help her learn the sounds of words. Ill words like 
grill and spill and sill all have the same sound and are spelled the same. There are many patterns in words. Other words do not have 
patterns, but probably, in first grade, learning how predictable words sound and are spelled would be beneficial.
