Hello! Hope you're having a wonderful day!
Blood test can detect pregnancy far before the over-the-counter test can and the blood test can tell whether one is pregnant even before someone is late. The over-the-counter test are getting better and better though and some can detect pregnancy before a woman is late as well. Most women get the sex of the child detected between 16 and 20 weeks along through an ultrasound however, there is a special blood test that one can take only if they qualify that can determine the sex plus other things at 10 weeks along. Note that this is not a common test that just anyone qualifies for but a woman must be considered a high-risk or have special circumstances to qualify to get these tests done. Like Judy mentioned, amniocentesis can also determine the sex of the child plus lots of other things going on but not recommended for most women because of the risks.
Hope this helps and have a blessed rest of your day :-)

I don't think ultra-sound was as an exact science when I had my kids. They could tell I had a live baby, but not the sex. The only way to do that was to have an amniocentesis done (excuse spelling), and I wasn't about to have that done.

This information gleaned from other colleagues who are grandparents and others I hear about having babies. Those of you in the know, definitely correct my impressions.
