[blparent] Traveling via Amtrak with a toddler - advice and suggestions please?

Ok fantastic parents. I need to draw on your experiences and wonderful 
resourcefulness for a second.
 Do any of you have experience traveling via amtrak with a three year 
old? We're supposed to attend a family function in vermont, three hours 
by train, and we're considering amtrak. Thus far, we've always traveled 
with family by car for long trips. Amtrak with our little guy will be a 
totally new experience for us. We're both totally blind.
 First, do we need to use a carseat on the train? We're thinking of 
bringing the one we have now for the rest of the trip anyway, but the 
thing is bulky and if we can, we'd love to get away with not having to 
bring it. We can just use someone else's while there, because there are 
plenty of kids our son's age in the family, in that area. We're only 
going for two days. The amtrak trip will only be one way.
 Any advice, tips, tricks, experiences good or bad are greatly 
appreciated. Thanks in advance,
