I always considered it well worth the extra trouble to get my bells from a belly dance supply place. The sound of the real brass bells is just so much better than the jingle bells and other ones you find in craft supplies.

I am partially tone deaf and it still made a difference in my being able to tolerate the noise. I suspect others in the general public may have also found the others annoying too.
