Boy I guess I was darned lucky. I had my daughter on her tummy at times and also on her side. I tucked a blanket around her as
well as her warm sleepers because up north here it was so cold and we just could not get our house warm. My mom tried to talk us
into having her in bed with us but I did not think too much of that idea. I know that there are some people who co-sleep with their
babies. I would not want to chance it.

My daughter is eight now. I was told to place her on her back in an empty
crib. No pillow, no soft toys. When she was small, I was instructed to use
a swaddling blanket or a wearable blanket, which was also called a sleep
sacque, to keep her warm. The sleep sacque was basically a set of warm
pajamas, except that instead of tight legs, the bottom half of the pajamas
were open so the baby could kick her feet, sort of like she was in a
sleeping bag. She liked the sleep sacque better than the footed pajamas
because it was summer when she was tiny, and the pajamas were too close and
hot for her. The hospital nurses told me statistics bore out the fact that
the incidence of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) had dropped very
significantly since babies were placed on their backs to sleep with no
pillows, blankets, and other soft items in their cribs that they could
smother on. But the decrease in maternal smoking had also contributed to
the decline in the loss of lives to SIDS.

Hi guys. Ok I am curious and I was wondering if some of you would share
your thoughts. Years ago, when my daughter was born, she
is forty now, I was told both by my mom and by the nurses in the hospital to
either have my baby sleep on her side or on her tummy.
They said to have those bumper pads in the crib so that my baby would not
hurt herself. No pillow of course. Now they are saying
that the baby is safer on her back. No blankets or toys. How do you keep
baby warm enough? I can see no pillow or toys that they
could smother on. What are the thoughts ladies and gents? I haven't had to
deal with babies for quite a while so I am curious. My
daughter wrapped her kids up and put them on their sides when they were
little.
The Good Lord never made anything imperfect, but mosquitos come close.
