[blparent] (Private) Americanisation defiance act

Judy,

I am writing privately since you have likely unsubscribed. Dave Andrews
blocked this guy from all of our lists shortly after your note.
Unfortunately, we believe we have blocked him before under other names. It
is impossible to know in advance that someone is subscribing under a new
name.

Please understand that replying angrily to a guy like this on the list is
exactly what he wants. Our best defense is to ignore him and then block
him. I feel badly that you felt his posts meant Blind-Talk was taking a bad
turn. It is impossible to watch lists twenty-four hours a day, and to
interpret lack of immediate action as meaning his messages were seen as
acceptable by us is truly unfair.

Anyway, I wanted to be sure you know that he was blocked, but if he should
come back by another name at some point it is best to just ignore him and
let Dave take action.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson

The post regarding residents of southern states is clearly off topic for
this list. The characteristics described arise from lack of opportunity
which can and has happened in any state and in any part of the world. It
makes more sense to figure out how to increase opportunity than to paint
areas of the country with a broad brush.

Best regards,

Steve Jacobson, List Moderator

Bob,
I am like you an American. I can speak for no other than myself. I am from
South Carolina and I'm currently working on a Masters Degree.
I am uncertain as to the point of your message. Yes, you are correct their
are Some whom embody the traits above - but not all of us.
Painting all of us with a broad brush in such a way is implying we all feel
this way.
More importantly, i do not believe messages such as the one you delivered
belong on a list such as this. To my knowledge, this list is for people who
are blind and are or someday may be parents. Furthermore I understood this
group to be a place where we can gain knowledge from those who have greater
knowledge on a subject.

If you're writing this to spark discussion - well done, but I do not believe
this is the forum for such a discourse.

Sincerely,
Nancy - an educated, Protestant Southerner
