[blparent] blind friendly breast pumps?

Manual pumps require a lot of strength in your hands
to work, your hands are providing the suction rather than an engine
providing the suction. You will hate your life if you go down this route.
Hospitals rent out hospital grade pumps, that's part of the lactation unit's
mission in life. Tell them you want one and hand over your credit card.
Remember, it's rental property from your perspective so they need to supply
you with parts which you will probably need to pay for.
A hospital grade pump provides a lot more suction then a commercial pump.
The pump you get from insurance is going to be commercial grade. You will
want it when you aren't near your hospital grade pump, I took mine in the
car with me, to a concert, and a few other places, it went with me to see
the Great American Eclipse which was it's last adventure.
Commercial grade pumps are physically smaller in terms of engine size which
is why you do it this way.
If your insurance provides pumps to mothers, then you are entitled to a
pump. Don't view it like a buddy giving youa pump, view it as getting
something you are entitled to.
The insurance people may or may not know about pumps, so your best bet is to
do what you're doing here and also ask other moms, La Leche League and moms
groups. It won't guarantee you that you will be happy with the results, but
you will get some good subject matter experts approaching in this way.

Thanks Ladies for your input!

I was thinking of going manual because I thought those might be more "blind
friendly" than the electric ones. Does anyone have a preference of manual vs
electric? Is one easier to use than the other?

How do you know if your pump is "hospital grade"? I was going to call my
insurance and see if they provide a pump, but wonder if there's questions I
should ask about it if they provide one, so that I can know if it's worth
them spending time and money sending it to me.

Thanks bunches,
Amanda
