[blparent] Keeping track of children in noisy environments

The thing with calling them is, put some teeth in it. I taught mine from the beginning that if she didn't answer me when I called, the fun ended. We either left the activity and went home, or if that couldn't happen because we had ridden with someone else, we sat out and stopped participating till our ride was ready to leave. I only remember that having to happen twice before the lesson stuck. You might make a game out of it at home and practice some before you do it out in public, especially for your little one. Have your kids come when you call at random time, and give them jellybeans or M&M's--candy works wonders as positive reinforcement. But make it clear that when you're out, answering is absolutely non-negotiable.

Hi all.
Thanks so much for the many responses.
My kids are about 2.5 and 5.
From folks that have trained their children, can you share any techniques that were particularly helpful? Calling them works sometimes but sometimes does not in my case.
