Hi Jack and all,
thank you for your questions. I think we all ask ourselves same questions every day.
1. I'm a blind mom, not a good braille reader either. what I'm doing is- I'm reading slowly but stop often and talk with my son about what I've just red or ask him if he knows a some certain word, what means that and that, and so on. So even I'm very slow reader it's getting not boring for him. And actually he's getting a fun time and learn something. So even you read a page you stil have a quolity time. try it.
2. I used a leash attached on his backpack when he was under two, then hands holding at all times when we walked. Then a bip units so I could pressf a button and locate him. Every parent knows and feel when a time to trust a child and let him/her go on a slide alone.
Rules- always say "I'm here" when I call your name.
Never hide from me while we walk on a sidewalk.
I explained him from early age and I knew he got it that following the rules was the only way we could go outside together.
Now he's almost 6 and mostly not holding my hand, he does only at crosing a heavy road. He always ask if he cross himself a small road and I permit. He needs to learn indepandence even I want to control.
3. for the troamas always a backup plan, whom you call, a friend or neighbor in case you can't assess yourself a situation. I teach my son how to describe to me his broken nale or scrape or bump and so on. Achild may be your assistant when you assist him or her.
4. I'm a not a fan of balls. But we play some inflatable ball, big one, so it jumps kind of in slow motion and you can hear as it hit at hardwood floor, so I have time to catch it. I belive you will find more tips on sports here.
5. Teaching reading and handwriting. Reading is eazy you can type on a computer and teach reading using a computer and all sort of cards you create. I know visual print so sometimes I write something on magnet board, but it looks like monstor letters though )
Handwriting, O my, I wish someone could explain how to do that without a sighted assistant.

Amazing!!!
I have been waiting for this for so long.
I'm a recent blind parent of two wonderful young boys (2 and 4).
Here is my wish list of topics.
•How do you read to your children? I am not a super proficient Braille
reader
•How do you manage outdoor play with balls, bikes, etc.?
•How do you keep track of your children at playgrounds and other public
places?
•How do you help your young children with lessons that are visual, such
as handwriting, reading, etc.?
•God forbid that my child gets hurt. What are some good techniques for
assessing whether the child needs to go the emergency room? How can I
assess whether the child has a broken bone, is bleeding, or has a
foreign object lodged in their eye or something like that when I'm alone?
I subscribed. I can't wait for more episodes.
Please let me know how I can be help even though I'm a relatively new
parent.
Jack
