My 14 & 16 year olds still suck their thumb. The suck to soothe themselves & as a stress releiver.

My mom tried everything when she caught me at it, mostly violence, but nothing stopped me except getting a retainer after braces. I would have needed braces whether I had my thumb in my mouth or not--I had eight adult teeth pulled, four on the top and four on the bottom, because there was no room for them in my face. Three is pretty young to worry about the habit anyway. The more attention you bring to it, the more entrenched it will become. Your sweet pea will probably lose the thumb-sucking all by herself, the more she hangs out with other kids her own age.

> hi all! My daughter is about three now. She has been a thumbsucker ever since she was a baby. She went to the pediatrician for her three your appointment. The pediatrician noticed that the thumb sucking is starting to affect the shape of her mouth and could lead to pretty severe orthodontic problems in the future if my little girl can’t stop it. We have tried working with her on it. We have tried chocolate chips, that works a little bit. We have also tried talking to her about it, which doesn’t seem to work. The more stressed my little girl is the more she sucks her thumb. For example, my in-laws took the family on a trip to San Diego California a couple of weeks ago. Everybody had a good time but it was at times a little bit stressful. During the stressful times my daughter definitely had her thumb in her mouth. Any advice or tips would be great!
