[blParent] Putting Things in Mouths

And remember, we blind parents don't keep the emergency rooms in business by ourselves. There's been many a sighted parent take a baby into the hospital for swallowing something small, unfortunately. My sister-in-law took one of her boys in for swallowing a coin. I don't judge her for it, by any means. I'm just glad it wasn't me; it sure could have been.

Subject: [blParent] Putting Things in Mouths

This is a very common issue with young kids, I don't think your experience is all that unusual. The best thing I know of doing and what I did when my kids were little is to simply be very, very careful to not have small items laying loosely where my kids could reach them. It also means being very careful about the toys one gets for their little ones. Be sure they can't come apart into small pieces and that they are not likely to break into small pieces. Certainly figuring out how to discourage a child from putting things in their mouths needs to happen, but it simply won't work all of the time and taking measures to minimize the problem is very important.

Best regards,

Steve
