[blParent] To circumcise or not to circumcise.

Serena, I have two sons, both of whom were circumcised shortly after birth.
I never thought about doing or not doing that, but it was a bit of a surgery
for them so was done when they were in the hospital within hours or a day or
two of birth. They are now 38 and 35. Things are a lot different now as I
learned when trying to give a bottle to my now 7.5 year old grandson, but
keep something handy when changing a boy and keep his little self covered
right away. My mom who thought she was the expert of all things got a shower
the first time she changed my oldest son when he first came home. I never
changed a girl so have no comparison. Best to you.

Subject: [blParent] To circumcise or not to circumcise.

Hi, everyone.

My apologies for bringing what can be a fairly controversial topic to the
table as one of my first posts in years, but I could really use some advice
on the topic of circumcision.

I know there are many factors that go into a parent's ultimate choice so far
as this is concerned. I'm concerned mainly with the pros and cons of caring
for a circumcized or uncircumcised penis.

Did those of you with sons find that circumcising was easier? Did you find
caring for an uncircumcised infant and boy more challenging? I'll be single
momming it this time, completely, and I'm just not sure what to choose. As a
blind mother, I'll have to clean it for years before he can, and I'm just
not sure if taking that extra time with foreskin might make things seem
inappropriate with bathing. I don't know if foreskin would be an extra
challenge or just another thing to find a way of doing without sight.

There is so much about having a boy that terrifies me. I'm a girl mom and
have no idea what to do with a boy. This is just the first of many
struggles, but it is one that must be made.

Thank you for any and all support here. I really do appreciate it.

Sirena
