Clayton,
I couldn’t agree more with your email and frustrations. Pharmaceutical
companies and pharmacists shouldn’t assume we aren’t on our own. I am a
single Mom of an early elementary aged boy and do not have another adult in
the home with me on a daily basis for the basics of running the household.
I do it on my own with the exception of my folks help me get to
appointments and all with him. I found this also true for services that
transport to appointments, it’s very stressful at times finding rides and
all that for myself and my son. I’m in PA and many won’t allow him to
travel with me. It makes life that more isolating and or stressful finding
alternatives and Uber/Lyft are very expensive where I am so that option I
save for emergencies only. There’s a lot that could be accomplished if
people would take time to put themselves in our shoes, as many of us, if
not all had no control on how vision loss even happened and showed
compassion and empathy. I think we’d see a much more connected and loving
world. I’ve been in places where I was made to feel guilty for even having
a child- it’s not cool! For me my eyesight loss started after my child was
born, but even so, I’d still have wanted to have him and believe anyone
should be able to have children if and when they want to. Disability does
not prevent us from living or growing a family. Shame on those that make it
hard in any way possible. All the best.
Your fellow blind parent of a child,
Christina
